CATELLUS NAMES IRVINE’S GAA ARCHITECTS FOR DESIGN OF 300,000 SQ FT VIEWSONIC HEADQUARTERS

Gilbert Aja, president of GAA Architects, Irvine, Calif., has announced his firm's selection by Catellus Development for the design of a major build-to-suit project located in the City of Industry, Calif., to be occupied by ViewSonic Corporation. The 300,000 sq. ft. facility will serve as a corporate headquarters for ViewSonic, the nation's top independent brand of computer monitors.

The sprawling tilt-up concrete structure will sit on a 14-acre site, and is to feature more than 30 truck docks, as well as 50,000 sq. ft. of fully-improved office space, including a two-story lobby volume and a product showroom. The balance of the building will be dedicated to distribution, research & development, and product testing uses. Fullmer Construction of Ontario, Calif., is the project's general contractor.

GAA has served as architect on a number of industrial developments for Catellus (known previously as Santa Fe Pacific Realty) over the past 11 years. Among them, a 278,700 sq. ft. facility designed as a build-to-suit for Queen Carpet opened in La Mirada, Calif., late last month; construction will be completed before the end of August on a 230,500 sq. ft. build-to-suit warehouse located in the City of Industry, to be occupied by Fortune 500 medical supplies distributor Owens & Minor. In addition to Catellus, GAA's current client list also includes major developers Trammell Crow Company and Lewis Homes/Commercial.
